Tip of the Month.

Tip of the Month.

HSS cutters are most suitable for fine and detailed work that requires a very clean and precise finish straight from the cutter, dovetailing in soft woods and panel raising being good examples.

Question of the Month.

Question of the Month.

Q. Can I fit Intumescent strip to a door using a drill? If not, what tools do I need?

A. Unfortunately you will not be able to put in an intumescent strip into a door using a drill, you will need a router to do this. Intumescent strips come in 3 widths - 10,15 or 20mm and they have a dedicated bearing guided cutter for making the recess for the strip to go into.
The cutter runs off of a ball bearing as the depth of the recess needs to be 4mm deep and using the bearing this makes sure the cutter cannot go any deeper than this. The strip needs to be inserted into the door before it is hung otherwise you will not be able to rout the full length of the recess into the door as the frame will obstruct the base of the router.
